Senior Mechanical Engineer
Lead mechanical design for the robotic systems transforming how housing is built.
Lead mechanical design for Verustruct’s next generation of construction robots — from wall-supported formwork systems and locomotion hardware to material handling, consolidation, and field-deployable robotic subsystems.
About the Role
You’ll own mechanical design for the machines at the core of Verustruct’s robotic construction platform. Working closely with controls, materials, structural engineering, and manufacturing, you’ll take complex hardware subsystems from concept through CAD, analysis, prototyping, testing, and deployment.
This role is for someone who is excited to build real machines, iterate quickly, and help define the mechanical architecture of a new category of construction technology.
What You'll Do
- Design mechanical subsystems for wall-supported robotic construction equipment, including automated formwork, locomotion, material delivery, consolidation, and auxiliary construction tools
- Drive component selection, tolerance analysis, structural analysis, DFM, and fabrication strategy for in-house and vendor-supported builds
- Lead build, bring-up, testing, and iteration of next-generation prototype systems
- Work cross-functionally with controls, electrical, materials, and structural engineering to integrate hardware into a coordinated robotic construction platform
- Develop design standards, documentation practices, and engineering workflows as the mechanical team grows
- Mentor junior engineers and interns while helping set the technical bar for hardware development
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience in robotics, heavy machinery, industrial automation, construction equipment, aerospace, automotive, or similarly complex hardware systems
- Strong CAD fluency, ideally in Siemens NX or equivalent, with experience taking designs from concept to fabricated hardware
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, test planning, failure analysis, and rapid iteration
- Strong understanding of mechanisms, structures, actuators, bearings, tolerances, materials, and manufacturability
- Experience with FEA, topology optimization, welded structures, sheet metal, machined parts, or large-format assemblies is a strong plus
- Track record of shipping or deploying complex electromechanical systems in real-world environments
- Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where design, analysis, fabrication, and testing happen in tight loops
